Portraits of Ai May

I did this portrait session of Ai May right after my adventure to Mulu Caves. It was organised by a fellow photographer in Miri, Alan Yong. I was free, so I joined in.

I think the location was Miri Library ? Not really sure about it. Ai May is a cute petite gal with a good personality. Here are a few of my fav's of the session.

It was quite an interesting experience, probably it was fatique from the Mulu trip, I seem to have taken less photos than I normally would have. Thanks Alan & Ai May!

Going to Mulu National Park

I did my trip way back in April 2011. Was suppose to meet up with some friends there but end up going at it alone. Which is fine more time for me and my thoughts. The last time I was at Mulu, was probably 15 years ago, when most of the current facilities were non-existant.

The journey starts from Miri Airport. While it is possible to go to Mulu via alternative means of transportations this was the fastest and less tiring, compared to going by express and boats. The photos are arranged in the order that they were shot(mostly). Hope you enjoy the photos as I have had taking them.

For the trip I have kidnapped my friend Alex's Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM lens (now thats a mouthfull).

View from inside the cabin

It was a pretty short ride, about 10-15 minutes if memory serves me correctly. Not action, no dramas

Landed safely~

Welcome to MULU NATIONAL PARK! \o/

This was kinda surpise to me, no conveyer belts here :) took them like 5 mins to unload from the air craft. After that it was yet another quick ride from the airport to the National Park HQ for RM 5.00.

Almost at the Mulu National Park HQ

Arrived! \o/ Leave your bags outside! Yes EVERYONE!

Registrations were pretty easy as I have basically booked things earlier on via email. While there I also made arrangements for the trekkings for the afternoon and the following day. Paid all the fee's and headed to my bed

This was the hostel which I was staying at. You can pick any bed you want, bedsheets & stuff were provided. At RM 40.00 per nite, cant ask for more! Bathroom was relatively clean, except for the humongous amount of bugs in there, which people who likes macro would love~

They gave me a HUGE map with much details (timing & pricing most important) on all the interesting points to go to. Very well thought out, I likes. Oh and for RM 40.00 it includes breakfast~ Pretty sweet deal. I only did the usual tourist locations, if you like adventure caving they have treks for that as well. But not for the faint hearted, like me =)

Information on glass~

Highlights of Mulu!

Other highlights of Mulu~

There are information everywhere, as long as u stop to read it.

Well I'll leave it at here for now because this post will be come extremely long and boring. So I'll cut it into segments~

Just back

Just landed back in Kuching today after a weekend over at Miri. I was there for work and also over the weekend paid for my own accommodations and such to see the Miri annual drag race.

Miri SkyIts good to be back in Kuching! With all the failing broadband which I have been hearing people complain over the weekend. At least it works sometimes, Celcom 3g in Miri is just sad. =( Just wanted to share the above image which I shot at the race track at Old Lutong Air Strip. Man, it was a bloody hot day.

More pics to come at http://www.kaichia.com and more details on the trip later la...

Time to rest my weary head! Good night all!

Escalators and Japanese Food in Brunei

Yesterday I took a road trip down to Brunei wth Irene, Cynthina, Roland and Daniel. Was suppose to go last trip but, I kinda forgot to bring my passport.

I was glad i made the trip. Thanks to Roland for driving us up. And keeping us safe~

After entering the border, we headed to Empire Hotel & Country Club for a looksie.

It was really big and really grand hotel. Here are some pics I took with my Nikon d300.

Marble Floor

View from the escalator. I think the glass wall is about 4 story high.

You have to take 3 escalators to reach the ground floor. >.<”

Riding the escalator~

Chairs without tables… hmm..

Me under the golden escalator~

Curved balconies in the building.

Guess what !

One of the suit buildings to the left of the lobby building~ very very nice from the outside.. I wonder how is it on the inside.. mmm

Roofing from one of the buildings near the beach.. nice honeycomb design..

Wouldnt you like to be like her… relaxing in a 5 star hotel by the pool side? Reading your fav book?

Or like him? enjoying a leasure swim in the pool on a hot day?

The other block of rooms to the right of the lobby.

View facing the blue seas… mmm… nice and relaxing ?

After mucking about for a bit, we went off from the hotel and went down to Gadong. Of course how can we leave without taking a group photo ?

Image taken from Irene’s FB account :) I think I’m loosing my neck…

After a short drive we arrived at Gadong. The last time I was there was probably two years ago. I did not know there was a super famous Japanese restaurant there called Excapade Sushi. I have been hearing about it for a while now. Only till yesterday was able to experience and understand what was the fuss all about.

Here are some shots, shot under AWB with my trusty Nikkor 17-55mm f2.8 lens.

I have no idea what was this…

beans…

Chicken… delicious ..

mmm~ salmon sushi… the picture does not do the dish justice!

Tuna Sushi~ slurp!!

Crazy ass party plate… $B50.00! Well worth the money!!!

Close up~

Trying to give a sense of perspective on the size of the party plate… its huge

HAHA! Still had time to do some CLS photography~ Check out the thickness of the salmon! Really fresh and delicious…

Not convinced? Let the pretty gal try to convince you la..

See, she was already licking her lips when see the piece of salmon!

How about the thickness? Maybe the next photos will give a better idea.

The Nokia n79 is 15mm thick… that piece of salmon is at least 10-13mm.

Here are some shots of the place

This leads to another block… more place to dine! Didnt take photos… shy ma.. :-P

Ops…. where did the meat go? Poor sushi!

After we had our fill of Japanese delicacies we headed to Bandar Seri Begawan.. Near Kampung Ayer…where we saw a lot of boats ferrying people to and fro to the Kampung Ayer.

The pictures below were taken with the classic Nikkor 80-200mm f2.8 lens

They were ferrying the locals as well as tourists for $B3.00 per person. Irene tried to nego a better deal, but couldnt. hehe! nice try Irene

Kinda like this shot. MmMMm…

Haha! check out Cynthina … so PRO..

So after kampung Ayer… we started our journey back to Miri.. along the way it started to rain heavily. And kind kind of rained till 8pm or so.. what a tiring day =) at 9 something I met up with Peter and went yumcha till about 1am.. I was beat.. went back to the hotel and slept like a log!

Oh and I’m posting this from Halo Cafe~ hehe thanks for the wifi.

another slow sunday

Its now 11th of October. Nearly middle of the month already. And I have not updated much in the journal. I did shoot a few portraits and two events. I have not published or post processed the portraits because the rest of the guys are not ready. And we kind of agreed to publish everything together.

Besides that I’m now in Miri. and sitting at Halo Cafe waiting for time to go back to Kuching. I guess everyone is busy, and it was my own fault to buy the tickets before informing my friends of my plans. So they already made their plans and I’m here alone. AHAHA!

Which is good because I can catch up in some facebook gaming. LOL. ever hear of Mafia Wars? Been wanting to play that for a while now. But I guess soon I will have more time to play it. xD

Its a bright and sunny day over here in Miri. I’m enjoying my pot of lavender tea. Playing facebook games and chatting with friends. Its warm and I’m listening to great music. This is very very relaxing and enjoyable. Only thing that kind of annoys me is that I have forgotten to bring my mouse along. So I been moving the cursor about with my fingers for the past 3 hours. Its becoming a bit tiring to say the least. Well 1 more hour to go before I go to the airport and wait another hour.. take a 1 hour plus flight back to Kuching. All in all another 4 hours to kill. Lucky for me I got my pink PSP with me. AHAHA!

Now all that I’m missing is my mouse!
