Just back from GRA

I was in KL over the weekend for GRA ROUND TWO with Desmond and Foosi. And I almost did not make it. Reason was that my uncle had passed away on Thursday and the funeral was on Saturday. My flight was on Friday evening, therefore I had to forfiet one of the ticket to attend the funeral. I could not make up my mind to go to KL or not, but on Friday night I purchased a one way ticket to KL.

I have even already checked in on Thursday afternoon. Before I heard the news of my uncle's passing.

Anyways I was glad I went, I met up with a lot of friend's this trip, namely Anna Wong, Ivan Khong, Ian Khong, Mickey Teoh, Jack Tan and many more

Time to rest now, shot nearly 3000 photos in two days, lots of repeats to go thru~ so, so tired

20081221 GRA Round 5 Shah Alam

I lied in my previous post. I said that it was the last posting about 2008. LOL! Actually this is the last post about 2008. I was so busy with stuff in December and early this month that I could not allocate time to post the images. After I came back to Kuching, had friends over, a lot of gathering and meetings. Then had to train new staff. Entertain co-workers from WM etc etc left me with a lot of images, stored in the hard disk.

Actually the final round of 2008 was suppose to happen in November. But because of some boo-boo made by the Sepang management, GRA was postponed to December. While it was slightly inconvenient, it was still worth it.

The day started off for me at around 7am. Unlike previous round, where I had to get there early. This round, I went around 9am (cant recall exact time too long passed. -_-" next time cannot over due post too long!). And this time Ivan came by to pick me up from my friend's apartment in a Renault Clio RS. I was very impressed with this stock Clio RS. 200bhp in a small sturdy chassis with Brembo's is really something else. Thanks Ivan!

Clio RS

Also for this round, there were more participants from Singapore as well.

This guy is good. I caught him flying off all four wheels. See if you can spot it in my pictures. :)

This round I didn't shoot much of the parked, cars. Focused more on the cars which were competing. As I was using my new lens. So I had to make sure I got some usable shots =P You can find the parked car shots in http://www.randomshutter.com/gallery/20081221-gra-round-5-set-a/

For set B, its focused on the people. I wanted to shoot those hardworking people at the timing tent, but they all look so garang, I scare to aim there.... Joking... completely forgot. Must remind myself to shoot everywhere next round!

RACE QUEENS~

Race queens with Meguiars car.. shockingly shiney, see the reflection on the bonnet! Amazing!

Lots of photographers. When a model pose, everyone jumps in. I couldnt, cos I have to stand far far away. So only can take candid shots =( downside of using a tele lens. Cannot get up close and personal =]

After lunch, the Pro Grass class started with briefing. Then a walk thru, and race!

Here is Ian, singing karaoke giving a briefing~ while...

...Nigel was being friendly with the race queen~ ^__^

Ok so this picture is not really well composed... I still like it, the pakcik there was not paying attention to where he is going already kekeke

For set B, I have split into two parts, part 1 is all the random shots while part 2 contains most of the end of the day, prize giving ceremony shots~ =)

The thing I like about GRA is that even the participants help out with running of the event.

Nigel helping to carry the prizes ~

Here are some of my random picks of the race~ :)

The crowd was not too bad... but most comments I hear from the crowd is that its a drift event. Some even commented that most participants could not drift. For those who still do not know, this is a time attack race. Not a drifting challenge!

It was like a family day~

After the smoke cleared...

When the prize giving was done, CELEBRATION!

I was so close to the action that my lens element also kena the champaign =]

So to sum it all up... For this round 5, I decided to post the larger file sized un-watermarked images in here. Cos last round everyone was asking for their images without watermark. Sorry didn't get to that. Please don't hate me. Work was, never ending.

Here are the links,

Large Files:

http://www.randomshutter.com/downloads/ - Part C has more photos than what I posted in the gallery. Cos there was just too much! therefore I split into 3 sections so its easier to download. All in all, if you download all the pictures there its 400+MB! Will remove the large files when I need the space. Thats probably at least 6 months time.

Right, so after a fruitful day 1, here comes a long and exhaustive day two (5th Sept 2008).

If you have not already figured it out, Sunday (5th of Sept 2008) was the race day for GRA. It was competition Round 3. Again I woke up uber early after a tiring day previously. And as I have stated in the previous post, I had a McDonalds drive thru breakfast. Kenneth a.k.a. v0ices came to fetch me from my friends apartment. He was one of the participants for this round, actually he only had the driver seat in his car, and cos he was picking me up, he reinstalled back his passenger side seats, just for me. Thanks man!

The journey to Sepang took about 40mins. Upon reaching, I ate my breakfast, and started walking around and checking out the cars that had arrived.

After snooping around for a while, the runs started for GRASS level participants. Luckily I had borrowed a lens (Nikkor 70-300mm) from Stephen earlier. Actually I borrowed the lens last year as well, but ended up using my 18-135mm more as the Vibration Reduction (VR) was very confusing for me. Also my understanding of the d80 and dSLR as a whole was not up to where I am today. Which is just slightly better than before.

And when GRASS level was completed. There was lunch break, so I went off to check out some of the booth there and take some snaps of the people and the sponsors who made everything happen.

+Briefing from Ian Khong+

After the lunch break, the briefing of the ProClass drivers there was a quick bicycle race. Nutters they race everything!

+My most fav shot+

I guess this round has the most pictures uploaded, had to split them into 6 albums. Else it would be too overwhelming to view. Also because of the amount of photos, I got many of them sorted wrongly. In the people album you will see a lonely car, in race album you will see people portrait shots. Just too lazy to fix them.

So after everything was said and done came the prize giving ceremony. Which was about 5.00pm or so. Cant remember exactly.

+I don't know his name but he is definitely the guy taking the video linked above. Maximum Zoom+

+Thanks Kenneth aka v0ices for taking the trouble+

When we left the venue, it was already closing to 7.30pm. Then the guys unloaded the equiptment at the garage, and off we went for a late night dinner.

Had a blast the whole weekend, but there was also a cloud over my head all day cos I had to go for meeting on Monday. It was suppose to be a personal trip turned work trip. Still I cant complain, since my company paid for the air tickets in the end.

Whew, one down and many more back log blogs to go! September is really really a action jam packed month for me!

ps the internet connection sux, I started this post at 11:04pm, its now 1:24AM!

back home again, again!

Ah... Back home. Just arrived in Kuching, taking the flight AK5124 which was not late, and landed 18 mins earlier than scheduled time. It was quite a hectic weekend for me. I was suppose to go on a personal trip to KL. But in the end my boss said the clients wanted to do a meeting, therefore I ended up extending my trip there (was suppose to come back yesterday night).

So I left for Kuala Lumpur on friday as indicated in my previous post. So on saturday I woke up around 7.00am and called for taxi around 7.30am. Then I met up with d3vilsim at McDonalds at the Curve. Had an early McBreakfast and left for Lake Garden / Taman Tasik Perdana. Finished the photoshooting event by around 11.30am. Then d3vilsim dropped me to 1Utama. I walked around waiting for Raymond to come join me. And I found the Tamiya Asia Cup 2008 challenge event there. Then when Raymond arrived, we went for lunch and then we went to catch a Singaporean movie "Money not enough 2". I would rate the movie 3.4 of 5 points, 5 being the best and 1 being worse.

After the movie, we headed off to The Curve, to meet up with Surgeus at The Apartment. Then to McDonalds at Cineleisure for dinner. And I bought a 320GB Maxtor Basic Portable Storage for about RM300 plus. So after that, went back to Siaw Pao's house, and zzzzz....

Sunday morning woke up again early was out the door by 8.00am. Kenneth came by and picked me up, we headed to McDonalds drive thru and bought some breakfast meals and headed out to Sepang Circuit. We were there the whole day, and the event ended at 5.00pm or so, by the time everything was packed up we left by around 7.00pm. Then went back to YS's workshop and then off to dinner.

By the time I reached Siaw Pao's appartment was already 11.00pm. Then I packed my bags and Dave sent me to Eastin Hotel. I will break down the individual days as I have some photos to share. Or else this would be a really really really really long post.

That's all for now.
