Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI : Tommi Mäkinen Edition
Its been a while since I shot any cars, and I must say my skills are mouldy, as my lens were literary mouldy as well. This shoot has been in waiting for approximately 2 years. I had contacted the owner for a shoot back then and on the way to the shoot, a certain unfortunate event happened and I had to postpone it, till recently.
The car that I had the chance to shoot is a special edition released in December 1999, the Tommi Mäkinen Edition, named after Finnish rally driver Tommi Mäkinen who had won Mitsubishi four WRC drivers championships. It featured a different front bumper, Red/Black Recaro seats (with embossed T. Mäkinen logo), 17" white Enkei wheels, a leather Momo steering wheel and shift knob, a titanium turbine that spooled up more quickly, front upper strut brace, lowered ride height (with tarmac stages in mind), and a quicker steering ratio. Amongst other colours, the Evo VI came in either red (Tommi Mäkinen Edition only), white, blue, black or silver with optional special decals, replicating Tommi Mäkinen's rally car's colour scheme. This car is also sometimes referred to as an Evolution 6½, Evolution 6.5, or TME for short. - wiki
Even tho its 19 years since the launch of this car, it still looks as menacing and beautiful as it came out back in 1999.
In standard trim, the Mäkinen made 276bhp along with 275lb ft of torque, which was enough to get the 1,365kg Evo to 100kmph in about 4.5sec. And many Evo owners would have started modding it when they got the car, luckily, for this car, besides some gauges its basically in stock.
Maybe the its not fully correct to say it is beautiful, but more along the lines of purposeful and aggressive, with its rally DNA of Mitsubishi during their heyday. This car feels that much more special.
Just seeing these cars on the road would make many looks twice or trice.
As usual, less typing and more pics :D
For sure this car needs a bit of TLC, and a good detailer, but then again, true to its roots of a rally stage car, it’s meant to be loved and abused. Hopefully the new owner will take good care of it.
