TGR Rollin Uphill
Few weeks ago I had the opportunity to drive up to Genting Highlands in an awesome classic Datsun. Thanks to a Kean Yap who hooked me up with this awesome ride. It was such a coincidence that during this my trip the BwB guys were organising an event to convoy up to Genting Highlands, and interestingly had an extra car which I drove up in.
Initially I wanted to follow up, so I can take some photos and maybe some videos along the way up. But I was driving, which was even more awesome.
The event itself was called The Gentlemen's Ride. Quite a catchy name I must say. My journey started off with Kean Yeap & Staney picking me up from my hotel in KL. Then we had a quick bite to eat and then headed to a petrol station to pick up the cars.
Then we all headed off to the meeting point. Which was at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa (I believe). Upon reaching, there were already quite a number of people there. It was only 8:30AM. I guess everyone there are early risers? or maybe scared of the famous traffic jam.
Registration booths were set up, and everyone was given a set of cool stickers. Sponsored by Twinbladez Stickers. I love them stickers. Too bad was not able to bring them back, because I decided to stick them on the car that I was driving. Hopefully the owner didn't mind me simply sticking the sticker on his beautiful car.
I was under the impression that it was old school, classic cars joining in the drive, walking around I saw a lot of Ford Fiesta. I thought to myself, maybe they are having a gathering and going somewhere as well, just that everyone decided to start at the same point ? Maybe? Turns out the Ford Fiesta Owners Club were joining in the event. Just for a bit. I was thinking to myself maybe my friend was there as well. I remember him being a member of the Fiesta Owners Club. True enough I found him cleaning his car behind some bushes. LOL. Talk about pure coincidence.
There were quite a number of cars a the meeting point, I think probably about 20+ cars. Let me high light a few of my fav's
Anyways, briefing start around 10:30 AM. Which was documented by our national tv channel, TV2.
And then we were off. I had suddenly had two extra passengers :) Alie & Nick
Long story short, we were stuck in traffic trying to go thru KL and two hours later reach the next meeting point, which was BP petrol station after Plaza Tol Gombak. Upon reaching I saw more of my lovelies :D
Everyone rested for a while, some refuelled. I refuelled myself, I have exhausted my drinks in the traffic jam. Some cars were over heating. But its an understanding that not all the cars will be able to make it up the hill. I guess everyone didn't expect the jam to take so much toll. :)
Very quickly the canopies were erected, banners were hung and food and drinks were served. :) Fires were started and wings started to fly after a while.
While everyone was chilling out and relaxing, the photogs were busy documenting the cars :)
We hung out and had fun till about 6.30PM and we headed down first, some stayed on longer
Had a lot of fun. It was very long, very tiring, but well worth the trip. Beautiful day, awesome people. free food? hahaha. And most importantly an awesome car to drive around.
